Spooktacular Frequently Asked Questions

General

  1. Where is the event located?
    Wiseburn Middle School – 5504 W. 135th Street, Hawthorne, CA 90250
    Entrance is through the front gate, next to the front office.

  2. Is this event open to the public?
    Families, friends, and neighbors of Wiseburn Unified School District are welcome to attend Spooktacular. Wiseburn House of Horrors is open to the entire South Bay community - please invite your friends; the more, the merrier!

  3. What are the event dates and times?
    Spooktacular: Friday, October 24th from 5:00–8:00 PM
    Wiseburn House of Horrors: Saturday, October 25th from 5:00–9:30 PM

    • Non-scare hours: 5:00–6:30 PM

    • Full scare experience: 6:30–9:30 PM

  4. I’m interested in going to Spooktacular but I also want to watch the Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series. Will you be showing it?
    Yes! The Dodger game will be shown in Dolphin Dugout, an outdoor cove next to the 200 Building (next to the Volunteer Room 201). 

  5. Is there an admission fee?
    Spooktacular is FREE to enter! But if you would like to participate in the Haunted House, games and food, you’ll need tickets (available for pre-order and for purchase during the event). Purchase here.

  6. How much are tickets and how do I buy them?

    • Tickets are $1 each and can be used for food, games, and the Haunted House. 

    • Pre-Sale Family Pack: $100 for up to 4 people (includes Haunted House entry for 4 and one Fast Pass). Available through EOD Wednesday, 10/22.

    • Fast Pass: $50 per person (available at the ticket booth Friday & Saturday only).

  7. What activities are included?

    • 30+ carnival-style games

    • Haunted House (elevated from last year’s maze)

    • DJ

    • Food & snack booths (pizza, nachos, churros, cotton candy, popcorn & more!)

    • Trick-or-Treat Corridor

    • Photo stations

    • Dodgers World Series Game 1 viewing (in Dolphin Dugout)

  8. Is there parking?
    Yes, free parking is available in the WMS lot and surrounding streets. Please be respectful of our neighbors.

  9. Will there be restrooms available to use?
    Yes! The restrooms are located at the building across from the outdoor lunch tables. It will be in the 500 building between the First Aid booth and Drinks & Snacks station. Restrooms will also be available on Saturday.

  10. Can we wear our Halloween costumes? Are masks allowed?
    YESSSSS!!! We encourage costumes!!! Students at Wiseburn Middle School will be wearing their costumes at school that day as well! Please see the costume guidelines here.

  11. Are kids from other schools allowed?
    Night 2 (Saturday) - kids and adults from the Southbay and Los Angeles will be able to walk through Wiseburn House of Horrors…so grab your friends and come back for Night 2!

  12. Do I need to attend with my middle school student or can I drop them off?
    Your middle school student can arrive by themselves or with friends but please make sure to pick up at 8pm! You can drop them off but we are still in need of adult volunteers so we hope you consider signing up here

  13. What if my child gets lost or needs help?
    Check in at First Aid or the Volunteer Room (201) or find a PTSA Board member wearing a blue PTSA t-shirt. Our team and security will assist right away.

Food

  1. Can I bring my own food and drinks?
    Great question! Outside food will not be allowed at the event. But don’t worry—we’ll have plenty of delicious options available for purchase! We’re selling pizza, nachos, hot dogs, chips, popcorn, candy, cookies, and drinks (water, soda, Gatorade). And new this year, we’re excited to bring in cotton candy and churro carts!

    Outdoor seating areas will be available.

  2. Will food be available for purchase on Saturday night?
    Yesss!!! We have Food Trucks coming during the event times!!!

Haunted House

  1. How big of a group can go through the Haunted House together?
    We will keep it to 4 people or less so you have a chance to experience the Haunted House!!!

  2. How long does it take to go through the Haunted House?
    It takes about 6 minutes to go through this Haunted House! So much detail with different rooms to go through!

  3. What does “non-scare time” mean for the Saturday Haunted House?
    Non-Scare time means that you can go through the Haunted House with lights on and no actors inside. This is ONLY on Saturday 10/25 from 5pm - 6:30pm.

  4. Is the Haunted House appropriate for younger kids?
    Wiseburn House of Horror (the haunted house) is not appropriate for younger kids while we have our actors in it…but on Saturday from 5pm - 6:30pm, we will be offering non-scare times for littles to have the chance to walk through and see the designs and details created by the volunteers, students, and Elm Street Productions.

  5. Can I use tickets for the Saturday Haunted House?
    Yes!!! If you have left over tickets from Friday night and you want to go through the Haunted House again on Saturday, you can use your tickets for entry (you’ll need 10).

Volunteers

  1. How can students sign up to volunteer?
    Da Vinci students can register through the Da Vinci volunteer link shared in their email; other students can sign up through SignUpGenius.

    Da Vinci student groups that provide at least 8 volunteers earn a $125 stipend for their team!

  2. Where do I check in?
    Volunteer Check-In is outside of Room 201 (the Volunteer Room), the first building to the left of the main entrance. You’ll receive a wristband for your shift color:

    • Set-up: Green

    • 5:00–6:30 PM shift: Red

    • 6:30–8:00 PM shift: Blue

    • Clean-up: Orange

  3. What should I bring or wear?

    • Comfortable, school-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes.

    • If working outdoors, consider bringing a sweatshirt—it can get chilly!

    • Snacks and water are provided in the Volunteer Room (Room 201).

  4. Can I get community service hours?
    Yes! Be sure to sign in and out at Room 201 so your hours can be verified.

  5. Can parents volunteer, too?
    Absolutely! Adult volunteers help with ticket sales, food service, security, and clean-up.

  6. What time should I arrive for my shift?
    Please arrive 10–15 minutes before your scheduled shift to allow for check-in and training.

  7. What happens if I can’t make my shift?
    Please notify us at wiseburnptsa@gmail.com or your Committee Lead as soon as possible so we can fill your spot.

  8. What do volunteers get?
    Community service hours (for students), a food item, snacks and refreshments, and a big thank-you for helping make this community event possible!

  9. Do you need volunteers for clean-up? 
    Yes! Saturday morning, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM. All board members and volunteers are encouraged to help.
